Research Assistant
Ashim S.

Ashim Shanker worked as an education consultant for the UNICEF Regional Office of South Asia. His team assessed the impact of intervention strategies meant to promote and enhance educational opportunities for out-of-school children. Based on this research, Ashim co-authored a literature review offering policy recommendations to governments in South Asia about effective early childhood development, economic incentive programs that can boost school enrollment, best practices for education data management and school governance, as well as non-formal education programs that can either supplement or support initiatives to keep at-risk children from leaving school.

Ashim has taught English Language Arts in public and international high schools in Tokyo, Japan. An avid writer since his youth, Ashim looked to his creative process as a novelist as a key source of inspiration in crafting a pedagogical technique that emphasized learning through thoughtful exploration. During the 11 years he worked in Japan, he also developed course curricula, as well as content for numerous textbooks and learning software. He received his EdM in International Education Policy (2015) at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
