Silvia Diazgranados Ferráns is a Visiting Graduate Fellow in Ethics at the Edmund J. Safra Center in Tel Aviv University and a New Civics Spencer Scholar at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE), where she teaches the course “Peace Education in a Comparative Perspective”. Silvia´s research focuses on identifying the multi-level factors that contribute to the development of citizenship competencies in young people, using depth interviews and data from large scale assessments. Silvia also works with international Non-Profit Organizations such as Save the Children conducting experimental evaluations to identify the impact of violence prevention, citizenship education, literacy programs and early childhood interventions that aim to help at-risk children develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills they need to live as constructive members of democratic societies. Silvia is the founder of Juegos de Paz, a peace education program that she implemented in partnership with the U.S.-based organization Peace First, in more than 70 schools located in rural areas highly affected by multiple forms of violence in Colombia. Before going to Harvard, Silvia conducted clinical and research work with victims of war and prolonged captivity who suffered posttraumatic stress, and supported former child soldiers from guerrilla and paramilitary groups in their process of reintegration to civil society. She holds BA degrees in Psychology and Philosophy from the University of Los Andes, Colombia, a MA in Prevention Science and Practice from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she is currently an Ed.D candidate in Human Development and Education. Silvia is the author of several peer-reviewed articles that explore issues related to moral decision-making, school climate, violence prevention, and citizenship education.
